Originally, it started as the traditional "geek computer science major has to have a website" website. Upon graduation and the start of my brief teaching career, I geared the website more toward educational and technology resources that I created or discovered. Following that the focus reflected two aspects of my life. The main aspect related to my professional career, including my educational, volunteer, webpage development work, and my search for a full time position. Secondly, I developed portions that reflected my personality and interests. Now that I have settled into my new job, the current thought is to utilize the website to further develop and showcase my interests. This is reflected in my links page, reviews pages, and the Celtic Directory. However, although the focus of the website has changed over time, most of the previous webpages have been archived in various sections of this website. Where did you come up with the domain name of iollan? - Originally I started using the name Iollan for role playing games that I had played during my teenage years. I had come across it while reading Tain by Gregory Frost (ISBN: 044179534X). In the story, based on the Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley), Iollan was listed as one of the foster sons of Fergus mac Róich. When I joined the SCA, I took the name of Iollann mac a Phearsoin. I had to add the letter n onto the spelling I usually used, as there was only one reference in recorded history (that I have found so far) to a name spelled like that. The reference was to a twelfth century king of Leinster, or at least that's what the heralds told me. So when I decided to register for a domain name, the choice wasn't that hard. I just picked something I was already known by. |
